The Minister of information and national orientation, Mohammed Idris, has explained the reason the federal government is prioritising the modernisation of the $3bn Eastern Railway Corridor from Port Harcourt through Aba and Enugu to Maiduguri.
Idris, who was interacting with Enugu State stakeholders on the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the people of the South East, said the South-East “is at the heart of this vision, not its periphery.”
The Minister emphasized the importance of bridging the communication gap between the government and citizens, countering misinformation, and fostering participatory democracy through open dialogue as he outlined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on eight pillars including economic reform, security, prosperity for all Nigerians, food security through agriculture, sustainable development via energy and natural resources, infrastructure enhancement, education and health investment, and governance improvement.
Idris highlighted bold steps taken by President Tinubu such as removing fuel subsidies and unifying exchange rates for transparency.
Despite initial hardships, interventions like wage increases, cash transfers, and food security programs are mitigating impacts.
“While challenges remain, the progress is real. By the end of President Tinubu’s first term, the benefits of reforms will be clearer, as the federal government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and delivering the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.” The Minister emphasized.
He however noted that over 1,000 primary healthcare centres have been rehabilitated nationwide, including in the South-East.

In a historic move, President Tinubu established new development commissions for all previously uncovered zones, ensuring no region is left behind.
“His inclusive governance style is evident in balanced appointments and equitable distribution of benefits”. Idris said.
