The University of Nigeria Nsukka is gearing up to host its 54th Convocation Ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s history. The ceremony will feature a keynote lecture, award of degrees and certificates, and other events to celebrate the achievements of graduating students.
Graduation Statistics
The university will be presenting a new cohort of graduates who have successfully completed their academic programs. For the first degrees and diplomas, a total of 9,821 students will be graduating, with 167 students graduating with First Class Honours. Additionally, 1,892 students will be receiving higher degrees and postgraduate diplomas, including 616 PhD graduates.
Convocation Lecture
The 54th Convocation Lecture will be delivered by Mr. Ukandu Eme Ukandu, the MD/CEO of Firstcap Limited and Chairman of First City Monument Bank. The lecture, titled “Educated to Rise: From Struggle to Global Strength,” promises to be an insightful and inspiring session for the graduating students and the entire university community.
Award of Degrees and Certificates
The ceremony for the award of first degrees and diplomas will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, while the award of higher degrees, postgraduate diplomas, honorary doctorate degrees, and the title of Professor Emeritus will be bestowed on deserving recipients on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
Honorary Doctorate Degrees
The university will be conferring honorary doctorate degrees on several distinguished citizens, including Senator Abdul-Aziz Abubakar Yari, Engineer Abba Abubakar Aliyu, Chief Samuel Ogboku, Dr. Jimmoh Rauf Badamosi, and Chief Andrew Oru, among others.
Achievements Under Acting Vice-Chancellor’s Tenure
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam, highlighted several achievements during his tenure, including the establishment of a Directorate of Grants and Scholarships, appointment of Deputy Vice-Chancellors, and international collaborations. The university has also made significant progress in energy transition, water supply restoration, environmental sanitation, and campus beautification.
Energy Transition and Water Supply Restoration
The university has embarked on a comprehensive strategy to mitigate electricity costs and transition towards more sustainable energy sources. The administration has also launched a phased restoration of the university’s water infrastructure, ensuring reliable water access for all members of the community.
Environmental Sanitation and Campus Beautification
The university has intensified efforts in environmental sanitation and campus beautification, including clearing blocked drainages and sewages, improving solid waste management systems, and trimming overgrown trees.
ICT Infrastructure Upgrade
A major renovation of the ICT Data Centre at the Enugu Campus is currently ongoing, aimed at strengthening the university’s digital infrastructure and supporting e-governance initiatives, e-education platforms, and academic and research computing capacity.
