Siege in Enugu over NBA Conference, journalists barred from entry as Obasanjo Shuns Event.

There is a chaotic situation around Independent layout, venue of the ongoing Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, conference, taking place at the International Conference Center Enugu.

Roads were blocked about one kilometer to the venue of the conference causing traffic confusion as motorists diverted through long distances to get to their destinations.

The state government had earlier announced diversion of traffic around the conference venue, particularly for tricycles and other commercial vehicles.

The NBA annual conference kicked off today, Sunday, with notable guests such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo and South African politician, Julius Malema scheduled to deliver keynote addresses.

Over 20,000 lawyers have converged in the Coal City for the event themed “Stand Out, Stand Tall.”

But there is tensions at the Venue, with some controversy surrounding access to the International Conference Centre.

Roads leading to the venue were barricaded, and journalists—except those from the government house—were denied entry.

The situation led to chaos and pandemonium among lawyers and journalists trying to get into the hall before the dignitaries arrived.

Despite the tensions, the conference seems to be shaping up to be a significant event as former President Olusegun Obasanjo was expected to be the Chairman of the event while Julius Malema will deliver a keynote address.

But Obasanjo having declined, was replaced by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah’s administration had prepared the city for the event, emphasizing hospitality and safety.
