….Urges Nursing Students to Take Studies Seriously as World Faces Shortage”
Former Presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated N20 million to the Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital in Enugu. During the donation ceremony, Obi lamented the state of governance in Nigeria, noting that poverty is worsening and the government has abandoned its responsibilities.
“The World Bank report this month showed that poverty is worsening in Nigeria. UNICEF shows that Nigeria is one of the countries with the most malnourished children because we have overtaken India in infant mortality,” Obi said.
He praised the Church for taking on roles that should be the government’s responsibility and assured them of his continued support.
Obi also urged nursing students to take their studies seriously, highlighting the global shortage of nurses and the high demand for their skills in Nigeria.
“By 2030, the world is going to have a shortage of over 30 million nurses. Nigeria already needs about 1.2 million nurses; we have less than 200,000 registered today,” he said.
The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Bishop Calistus Onaga, expressed gratitude for Obi’s support and prayed for the realization of his vision for a better Nigeria.
