The Nigerian Army’s 82 Division has denied reports of a protest in Enugu following the discovery of a live explosive device on farmland. The army described the reports as “unsubstantiated, misleading, and lack[ing] any credible verification.”
No Immediate Threat
The army assured the public that there is no immediate threat or cause for alarm, stating that they have standard operating procedures in place for handling and disposing of explosive ordnance. They emphasized their commitment to the safety and security of all citizens.
Call for Calm and Responsible Journalism
The army urged the public to remain calm and refrain from disseminating false or unverified information. They also called on media practitioners to uphold responsible journalism standards by verifying information with relevant authorities before publication.
Collaboration with Civil Authorities
According to a statement issued and signed by Lt Col Jonathan Unuakhalu, the 82 Division reiterated its collaboration with civil authorities to maintain peace and security across Enugu State and the South East region.
