A meeting of the Board of Advisors of Jands Travel Business School, Enugu held, with a renewed determination to reposition the Institute to an enviable height.

Disclosing this to newsmen shortly after their meeting, Chief Ben Etiaba, FCA,
Chairman, Advisory Board of the school, said the meeting was principally to brainstorm and plan a way forward for the school with a focus on 2026 as well as the welfare and role of the Board members.

Also speaking, Mrs. Chioma Obi, Executive Director of Jands Travel Business School (JTBS), said that Board reviewed the activities of the Institute in 2025 and preparations ahead of the 2026 conference.

The Domestic Tourism Conference was held at Ofuobi Africa Centre, amidst pomp and pageantry.

Ex-Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State was the keynote speaker while Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State who was represented by his Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke declared the conference opened.

The 2-day conference attracted high profile Nigerians, including seasoned professionals as well as traditional rulers.

Among them were Igwe Anichebe, Chairman, Ezeagu Local Government Traditional Rulers Council, Member, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council – representative of HRH Igwe Ogadagidi – Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Ooni Ifeanyi Ugochukwu.
(Eyisi AKABUEZE n’ Neni), president and founder of Tribe by Veronica, Enugu. The royal father performed the traditional prayers/rites.

Ozo Dr. Ferdinand Anikwe, Director-General, Centre for Black Arts and African Civilisation (CBAAC) gave the keynote address at the closing ceremony.

Anikwe noted that Enugu and indeed Nigeria have abundant cultural sites yet to be developed.

He commended the organisers – JBTS – for the colourful event, pointing out that guests were treated to immersive cultural experience featuring traditional performance, culinary delights and creativity that brought to bear the nation’s richness of identity.

“We are yet to develop our various cultural sites. Enugu State’s cultural sites include historical landmarks like the Nsude Pyramid and Zik’s Premier Residence, ancient technological sites such as the Lejja Iron Smelting Site, and museums like the National Museum of Unity. Natural sites with cultural significance include the Awhum Waterfall and Milliken Hills, while vibrant cultural traditions are celebrated through festivals like the Mmanwu festival”, he said.

The Convener/Director of Jands Business Travel School (JBTS), Mrs. Chioma Obi in her address, commended the participants and guests for attending the conference, just as she extended her gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for his aggressive infrastructural development in the state.

The panellists who anchored the business section namely; Hassan Abdullahi Zakari, Chukwuma Ephraim Okenwa, Chibuzor Hillary Asogwa, Benedeth Cherechi Anigbo, Dr Chidima Chris Oguamanam, Iheanyi Igboko, agreed that the conference was significant in many dimensions as it was not only about dialogue and strategies. It was also a celebration of Nigeria’s living heritage.

It was observed that guests enjoyed a refreshed cultural journey with palmwine tasting. Delegates from participating states-Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo showcased their varieties of freshly tapped palmwine.

The Masquerade performance (Iti Mmonwu) also featured prominently at the Conference as their display, colour, dances and symbolism brought to life one of the most vibrant aspects of Igbo culture. The Masquerade represents ancestral spirits and the link between the living and the spiritual world.

There were also craft and arts exhibition at the venue of the conference.
