History is beckoning on Jands Travel Business School, Enugu (JTBS) as it is set to graduate the 2025 batch of 150 students this August.
The Director of JTBS, Mrs Chioma Obi who disclosed this at a press briefing in Enugu stated that the students had undergone various short courses on Travel Business Foundation, Ticket & Reservation, Tourism, Tour Packaging & Planning.
Others specialty courses are: Visa Application Masterclass, Hotel Operations, Customer Service, Travel Agency Management.
“We train, certify and recruit travel professionals that are fit for the travel, tourism, aviation and hospitality industry”, she said.
“We, with the support and advise of the school’s formidable board of trustees, headed by Chief Ben Etiaba as the Chairman, are collaborating with tertiary institutions in Southeast geo-political zone including University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and a few others on Industry training and skill development in the sector.
Obi recalled that it was conceived out of a long-standing vision to bridge the professional knowledge gap in Nigeria’s fast-growing but under-skilled travel, tourism, and hospitality sector.
“Officially launched in 2023, the school began as a series of training sessions and short-term programs offered to aspiring travel consultants and tour operators in Enugu and its environs.
She explained that the vision and mission of the school are to be the power house of travel, tourism and hospitality industry knowledge and skills acquisition in the south-eastern Nigeria and the nation as a whole.
“We are on a mission to be a training institute that will produce travel professionals who will be bonded and powerful enough to give the sector the needed voice, as well as grow the industry to be the driving economic force in Nigeria.
According to her, “JTBS is anchored on the following objectives
“To equip young Nigerians with hands-on skills in travel operations, tour packaging, hospitality business, and tourism marketing.
“To promote ethical and sustainable practices in the Nigerian tourism industry.
To foster entrepreneurship and job creation through tourism-based enterprise development.
“To create a platform for collaboration between the public and private sectors in tourism capacity-building programs, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
She noted that the sudents graduation is coming ahead of the tourism conference slated for September 5-6, this year.
Some of the students interviewed including Okafor Noble Chigozirim, Chinecherem Nwodo and Juliet Mmesoma Ifeacho said that they are happy with the management of Jands Travel Business School, pointing out that they learnt alot from the programmes they went through in the institute.
“We will put into practice the skills we learnt in travel operations, tour packaging, Ticket & Reservation, Tourism, Tour Packaging, digital tourism marketing, among others”, Nwodo said.
