Enugu Police Crack Down On Armed Robbery And Cultism, Arrest Suspects

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate operations for conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, and cultism. The arrests were made on June 22, 2025, during multiple credible, intelligence-guided operations, and led to the recovery of three firearms and other incriminating exhibits.

Recoveries
The police recovered:

  • Three firearms, including a single-barrelled pistol and a cut-to-size gun
  • Eight live cartridges and one live 7.62mm calibre ammunition
  • A gun-like VL-Light Electronic Gas Igniter

Arrests
The suspects arrested include:

  • Esomchi Ugwu and Kosisochukwu Ukwuani, who were found to be members of the Black Axe Confraternity
  • Ogbodo Friday Onyekachi, who is linked to an ongoing investigation involving conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms, and cultism

Ongoing Efforts

The police are ongoing efforts to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene, including those involved in the use of a gun-like VL-Light Electronic Gas Igniter to perpetrate criminal acts.
