Two devastating road accidents occurred on September 3, 2025, along the Ozalla/4-Corner axis of the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway, claiming ten lives and leaving ten others hospitalized.
The first incident, a multiple-vehicle crash, happened around 9 a.m. on the Enugu inward-bound lane. A Howo truck collided with a Toyota Corolla car that was attempting to overtake another truck, engulfing the car in flames and killing five occupants.
A Foton bus and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus were also involved, with one passenger in the mini bus confirmed dead.
In the second incident, around 3 p.m. on the same road, a Sino truck rammed into a tricycle, killing four occupants.
The injured were rushed to the hospital, while the deceased were later confirmed dead.
Enugu State Police Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the crashes as avoidable and urged drivers to exercise caution, especially during the Ember Months when road traffic increases.
“No journey is worth the loss of lives,” he emphasized, cautioning motorists against recklessness and urging them to prioritize safety.
The CP has directed the State Motor Traffic Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accidents.
The police command is working to unravel the causes of these tragic incidents and prevent further tragedies on Enugu roads.
