…Call for Digital Readiness in Nigerian Schools
The All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) South East zone recently hosted its Mandatory Continuing Professional Training (MCPT) in Enugu State, Nigeria. The event brought together principals and education stakeholders to discuss the theme, “Quality Education in the Digital Age-Prospects, Challenges and Strategic Pathways for Implementing Computer Based Examinations in Nigerian Secondary Schools”.
The National President ANCOPSS, Dr. Robert Ike Okorie, emphasized the importance of digital transformation in education, highlighting the need for principals to lead the change.
“The digital era has redefined education, and principals must adapt to interactive learning platforms, digital libraries, and real-time assessment tools. Implementing computer-based examinations is a strategic step towards ensuring quality and transparency in assessment
“The COVID-19 pandemic exposed gaps in Nigeria’s education system, emphasizing the need for digital readiness. So principals must work together to build schools that are beacons of digital excellence, promoting equity, access, and accountability”. Okorie stated.
Earlier, the ANCOPSS Zonal Chairman, South East, Sir John Ngozi Anthony said the MCPT provides an opportunity for principals to update their knowledge and skills, sharing experiences and best practices.

The training is a pivotal ground for growth, offering a platform for collaboration and experience-sharing among South East states. Participants are encouraged to listen attentively to guest speakers and engage in meaningful discussions.
Also in an address, President of ANCOPSS Enugu State Chapter, Lolo Cecilia Odoh welcomed participants and expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah and his team for their support. She acknowledged the governor’s monumental strides in the education sector, which have set Enugu State apart as a pacesetting model of excellence.
“Governor Mbah’s administration has recorded significant achievements in the education sector, including the establishment of 260 Smart Digital Schools, adoption of the new retirement age for teachers, and implementation of the new minimum wage. The state government has also provided free education from Primary to Junior Secondary School, constructed and renovated public schools, and installed pipe-borne water and security cameras.
Lolo Odoh however, presented requests to the governor, including promotion of teachers, refurbishment of old school buses, regular training and re-training of principals and teachers, provision of welfare incentives, and sponsorship of principals to international conferences.
Lolo Odoh concluded with a call for unity and collaboration among education stakeholders to drive excellence in education.
Participants expressed gratitude to the governor and his team for hosting the MCPT, praising the state’s commitment to education.
The MCPT has enhanced the leadership competence and administrative excellence of principals, equipping them to navigate digital education and promote quality education in Nigeria.
