The Nigerian Army’s 82 Division has categorically refuted allegations that its troops are harassing and intimidating residents of Ochon Community in Cross River State over a land dispute with Alesi Community.
The division described the reports as false, misleading, and clearly aimed at discrediting the efforts of troops working tirelessly to maintain peace in the area.
Troops of 245 Battalion were deployed to the area following renewed clashes between the two communities on September 19, 2025. The army’s swift response prevented escalation and restored normalcy across the affected areas.
According to a statement issued and signed by Lt. Col Ayeni, the 82div spokesman, the division emphasized its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights.
The 82 Division reiterated its absolute neutrality in all communal, ethnic, political, and land-related matters.
“We have no stake or interest in the ownership, control, or settlement of land disputes between Alesi and Ochon or any other communities,” the division stated.
Its mandate is solely to maintain peace and forestall any breakdown of law and order that could endanger lives and property.
The division urged community leaders and stakeholders to continue embracing lawful and peaceful avenues to resolve differences. It also encouraged the public to provide credible information on any security threat or possible misconduct by personnel through established reporting channels.
