The Enugu State Police Command on Thursday held a press briefing to review its policing activities over the past six months under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
The briefing highlighted the command’s commitment to professionalism, proactive policing, and community engagement.
Commitment to Professionalism and Integrity
CP Giwa emphasized the command’s zero-tolerance policy for extortion, corruption, and any conduct that could bring the force into disrepute. “We have consistently urged officers and men to uphold professionalism, discipline, and integrity,” he said. “Officers have also been warned against interfering in civil matters, especially those involving land disputes, and are encouraged to advise parties to seek legal redress through appropriate civil channels.”
Proactive Policing and Achievements
The command has adopted proactive policing as its main crime-fighting strategy, yielding impressive results. “We have witnessed a marked reduction in violent crimes carried out under the guise of secessionist agitation,” CP Giwa stated. The command has also deployed joint security teams to tackle herders-farmers-related crimes in communities of Isi-Uzo and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas, restoring relative peace and security.
Security Management of NBA Conference
The command’s effective security management of the 2025 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) was a notable achievement. “Not a single crime was recorded before, during, or after the event,” CP Giwa said. “This was made possible through deliberate and strategic security planning, coordination, and execution, with the support of sister security agencies, the Enugu State Forest Guards, and the Neighbourhood Watch Group.”
Operational Successes and Notable Cases
The command has recorded significant operational successes, including the arrest of 5,176 suspects for various offenses and the rescue of 113 abducted or kidnapped victims. “We have successfully dismantled several intra- and inter-state armed robbery, kidnapping, vehicle snatching, and theft syndicates,” CP Giwa stated.

CP Giwa acknowledged the support and leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba. “I also appreciate the support and cooperation of our sister security agencies, the Enugu State Forest Guards, the Neighbourhood Watch Group, and law-abiding citizens, who have continued to provide credible intelligence and information that aid our operations,” he said.
