Nigeria President, Ahmed Bola Tinubu has said that the removal of fuel subsidy was very necessary for the development of Nigeria.
Tinubu made this known in Enugu while on a working visit to the state. The President was full of praises for governor Peter Mbah for what he has done in transforming Enugu state.
According to the President, “He is doing a fantastic job. I salute Peter Mbah for his commitment to development. You have built up a good team and I have reviewed a number of things with you in Abuja. You have encouraged me on the technological advancement of the state. The commitment you have from the private sector
” The election is over and we have to move the nation forward. You have demonstrated that irrevocable commitment towards human development
“I don’t care which party you come from. You are my friend. You are doing well and very focused. We must build this house called Nigeria to not just satisfy our immediate need, but our tomorrow too.
“That’s why the removal of the fuel Subsidy was necessary. We cannot spend the future of generation yet unborn in advance. Don’t bankrupt the nation before they’re born
“Please, continue to cooperate and collaborate with your brother and friends here to push the development of Enugu State and be a good symbol for the south eastern states”. The President said.
Earlier in an address, the governor of Enugu state, Peter Mbah welcomed the President and told him that his visit was an honour that the entire state will cherish for a long time.

“Your presence here is also an opportunity for us to heartily commend you for signing the South East Development Commission bill into law
“We are particularly delighted because, besides fostering infrastructural revamp and tackling peculiar ecological challenges in the South East, this Commission will also complement the many development strides unfolding across Enugu State.
“Just a few days ago, Your Excellency, you were announced by the ThisDay Board of Editors as The Man of the Year. This is a fitting honour that speaks to your steely determination to put our dear country back on the path of steady growth. Congratulations, Mr. President
“Your Excellency, your credential as a true federalist stands out brightly and the legacies thereof will for long earn you resounding accolades. In signing the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill, you liberalized electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. That singular act will always rank as an enduring legacy
“It is noteworthy that Enugu State was the first sub-national to which regulatory oversight of the local electricity market was ceded. That’s a reflection of how swiftly we are pursuing the goals we have set for ourselves
“Our goals include growing Enugu State from the $4.4bn economy that was on my accession to office, to a $30bn economy in the next four to eight years.
It also includes the ambition to make Enugu State one of Nigeria’s top three states in GDP terms”. The governor said.
While in the state, the President commissioned several key projects initiated by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, including:
30 Enugu Smart Green Schools, part of a larger initiative to construct 260 such schools across the state
60 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, out of a total of 260 planned across the state’s wards
90 completed urban roads in Enugu City
A state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre to check crime in the city
150 patrol vehicles equipped with AI-powered surveillance cameras
The multi-functional Enugu International Conference Centre
These projects aim to advance education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure development in Enugu State.
