Violent Outburst on Ibom Air Flight Leads to Passenger Ban

An incident involving a passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025, has led to the passenger being banned from flying with the airline.

According to a press statement released by Ibom Air on August 11, 2025, Ms. Emmanson exhibited unruly and violent behavior that posed a serious threat to the safety of the crew, passengers, and aircraft.

The trouble began when Ms. Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone before takeoff as instructed by the crew, in line with standard aviation safety procedures.

After a fellow passenger switched off the phone for her, Ms. Emmanson launched into a verbal tirade. The situation escalated dramatically upon arrival in Lagos when Ms. Emmanson confronted the Purser, stepping on her, tearing off her wig, removing her glasses, and assaulting her with footwear and slaps.

She also attempted to forcibly remove a fire extinguisher to use as a weapon, an act that could have damaged and grounded the aircraft.

Airport security was alerted, but even after their arrival, Ms. Emmanson continued to attack Ibom Air and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security staff.

She was eventually restrained, removed from the aircraft by force, and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.

Ibom Air has submitted a report on the incident to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and has placed a travel restriction on Ms. Emmanson, prohibiting her from flying on any of their aircraft.

The airline reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards unruly or violent conduct that threatens safety.

“We commend the bravery and professionalism of our crew in handling this situation under extremely challenging circumstances,” Ibom Air said in the statement. “Safety remains our highest priority. We urge all passengers to comply with crew instructions at all times for the safety, security, and comfort of everyone on board.” The statement read in part.
